UNIVERSITY PARK -- A former Penn State employee is scheduled to appear in court today in succession charges she allegedly stole more than $47000 from the university in cash and traveler's checks entrusted to her care.

Mandi Maria Shirey, 27 of 1865 State passages 28 and 66, Kittanning, is charged by dint of Penn State police with 47 esteems of forgery and single high crime counts of theft, theft on deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of stores received and receiving stolen attribute She also faces a misdemeanor charge of misapplication of entrusted thing owned

She was arraigned Jan. 9 before District connoisseur Jonathan Grine and was released upon $100,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for today at the middle County Courthouse.

"We have had cases of stocks being stolen from the university in the past, still it certainly is a rare occasion," Penn State spokesman Tysen Kendig said.
