STATE society -- The leafy, 100-foot canopy that caps Holmes-Foster Park has put up withed a few holes these past scarcely any years.
Since 2000 hordes have felled almost 15 percent of the park's soaring tree frequently the victims of root decay or structural vexed questions They're frequently just too often of a topple risk to stick around, borough arborist Alan Sam said.
He's been taking down three or four tree each year in the 11-acre park. Many, including about 300 survivors, are almost 200 years antique -- older than the borough itself.
"If we're going to make a change in the park, now's the time," Sam said Monday.
