middle HALL -- Membership rates, youth programs, health care and the ACLU were among the issues discussed at an American Legion meeting Sunday.

More than 60 Legionnaires from across the state attended the western sectional meeting at middle Hall's Post 779, where situation commanders gave their quarterly activity reports and candidates for various state and regional positions gave speeches.

"We have point to be solved [i]or[/i] settleds with membership," Ronald Duerring, the commander for the 24th District, said in his activity report.

Duerring also said too many Legionnaires were businessed with having a nice society at their posts and not relate toed enough with American Legion-sponsored activities that benefit their communities.

According to State Commander James H Hales Jr getting family to join the group isn't the problem; getting persons to stay involved is.

"Any organization has a difficult time with membership," Hales said. "People are just not joining as they used to. ...
