Winning the Austin Civil War Roundtable's Daniel and Marilyn Laney Prize places a historian in chosen company with the likes of Gary Gallagher, former Penn State professor and now John L Nau III professor in the history of the American Civil War at the University of Virginia, and William C Davis, professor of history and director of programs at Virginia Tech

To win the award twice -- well, alone one writer has done that: Rebersburg native, midmost point Hall resident, retired Penns Valley Area High train history teacher and nationally recognized Civil War scholar Jeffry Wert.

Wert's monumental "The Sword of Lincoln: The Army of the Potomac" was named the best work in 2006 for promoting the heritage and preservation of endangered battlefields of the Civil War. It joins Wert's "A Brotherhood of Valor: The belonging to all Soldiers of The Stonewall Brigade, C.S.A., and The Iron Brigade, U.S.A.," which won the award
